The shape of the Earth's surface is not generally considered when geologists study an area's vulnerability to earthquakes. Geologists typically focus on the kinds of rocks underground. According to the geologists structures built on soft sediments experienced enhanced shaking which is very much expected. However, the strongest ground motions occurred on the mountainous ridge caused more damage, infact remarkable destruction. So it can be deduced that the earthquakes is much more devestating when hits the mountainous areas.
