I know the Indian Diwali festival but I am very curious to know about Nepali Diwali. Is it the same as the one celebrated in India or is different in any way?

Nepal is a multi-ethnic and multi-lingual society, a landlocked country nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is the only Hindu Kingdom of the world so the Hindus in Nepal celebrate the Diwali festival with bright lights, gift exchanges, fireworks, and elaborate feasts to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of light and wealth. Diwali here is known as Tihar and like the Hindu communities, in the rest of the world, the Nepali Hindus too enjoy these days with family and friends and take rest from their hectic work schedules. Just like most places in India Diwali is celebrated here to honor the goddess of wealth and god of prosperity Lakshmi and Ganesh respectively. Diwali venerates the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshman from his fourteen-year-long exile and crushing the demon-king Ravan. In blissful celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya the Capital of Rama illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas or oil lamps with bursting firecrackers. The first day of the Diwali festival in Nepal is dedicated to cow worship and the female members of the house cook special rice and feed the cows as it is believed that worshiping the cow on this day brings in blessings from goddess Lakshmi. The second day is dedicated to dogs as the Vahana of Bhairava (Lord Shiva's vehicle). The Preparation of delicious food is the order of the day and is especially meant for the dog.
