According to the U.S. Air Line Pilots Association, the average captain of a major airline's fleet earns about $180,000 a year. A major airline is one that earns upwards of 1 billion sales annually, qualifying the likes of American Airlines, Delta, Southwest etc. Captains are on average 50 years of age and have 18 years of flying experience.
In contrast, a non-major airline captain earns an annual salary of $70,000, stark contrast to the salary total above. They are usually 41 years old and have 10 years of high level flying experience.
