The key difference is how they are bread as they are both hybrids. Ligers are produced by a male lion and female tiger while a tigon is from a male tiger and female lion. A liger is the biggest known feline in the world with an average weight of 1,000 pounds. A tigon is much smaller at an average of 500 pounds and can potentially be smaller than both its parents.
