There are actually several differences between both species of large reptile. For starters, in terms of appearance alligators are more black or darkly coloured than predominantly green crocodiles. Crocodiles are also larger and have teeth that are visible when their mouths are closed while alligator teeth remain hidden when they have their mouths closed. Alligators also feature U-shaped snouts while crocodiles have more V-shaped snouts.
