Toyota has a brief history of sports cars, there was not much said and written about its sports versions that were before MR2, Celica and Supra. But there was a car named 2000 GT. When this car was launched much was said about it and it was a part of some of the famous track drives and races.

The 2000GT is a pretty sensational-looking piece, which was inspired by the Jaguar E-Type, and with a packaging that was launched in 1967 before the Datsun 240Z, that didn't come to our marketplace until the year 1970. The Datsun was pretty less expensive and due to this reason it went on to become a much bigger seller, but this does not minimize the impact of the Toyota 2000GT. Due to the stronghold of Shelby and Camaros 2000GT failed to make a success and hit and was not among the best sellers of that time. Even nowadays they are well over $100 grand.

At that time Toyota has to face lot of competition with other cars as well, like there are Buicks, Chevys, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Caddys, that were bit shorter and less roomy. They looked pretty great and also handled very well than before and also burned less gas. The Caprice version at that time also captured Motor Trends Car of the year award. So the 2000GT was not highlighted as it should due to fierce arch rivals it had at that time.
