   From what I have heard and seen on Anthony Bourdain - Parts Unknown, there is a pickled shark dish from Iceland that is by far the worst thing eaten as food. Known as Hákarl, only the rotten flesh of the Greenland shark is chosen as its fresh meat is poisonous when consumed. Decaying the meat removes harmful uric acid and the fermentation process involved leads to a strong amonia smell similar to common cleaning products. Shark carcasses are pressed to remove liquids and left to ferment before being hung for months. Once hung they are ready to be consumed by whoever would want to eat that type of dish.
