What is the origin of drifting?

Where did drifting start? This is what I think:

Some chinese guys were driving down a mountain in their car. The car fell off the mountain, and so they didnt look stupid to their friends, they came up with drifting. Now a bunch of asians are falling off of mountains

    n the Mountains of rural Japan, a form of drifting called Togue (mountain racing) is how it was all started.
