Voting   in New Zealand is not compulsory, although it is necessary to be registered   on the Parliamentary Electoral Role so that anybody can choose to vote if he   want to. One can be eligible to vote if:

    • He is 18 years or older

    • He is a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident,  and

    • He has lived in New Zealand for 1 year or more without leaving the   country.
