    The reason why David Beckham is such a polarizing figure is that some people believe that his overall status and level of fame should be a direct reflection of his contributions on the soccer field. This however is not the case. There is no doubt that Beckham is one of the greatest dead ball and set piece wizards to have played the game. His ability to score and set up teammates with the long ball is long revered and admirable with a quick YouTube search. He will never be mistaken for Messi or even a solid defensive player but in his role he was a very valuable piece of some excellent teams.




    When it comes to his overall social impact and legacy few athletes in sports history can match what David Beckham offers. His trend setting style, model good looks and high profile marriage make him one of the most widely recognized faces in the world - something that the popularity of soccer helps to propagate.




    All in all I think his legacy is that of a great club player, set piece master, good as an International player and a total social icon.
