   I think honestly that this is a difficult question to answer not knowing the full details of what your relationship currently is with your in-laws. I sincerely hope that it is already quite strong and you are the type of person who is always looking to improve. Whether that be the case or not, I hope that the following advice is helpful. Full disclosure: I am happily married to my best friend and have a wonderful relationship with both of my in-laws, who live relatively close to us.

   
   

   First things first, it is always important in any relationship in life to seek to understand the other person and where they are coming from in their actions, words and body language. If you make a concentrated effort to listen and understand the situation from their point of view I promise it will help your dealings with them.

   
   

   Secondly, remember that they love your wife/husband and life for everyone involved (especially your spouse) would  be much easier if you all got along. Try to let go of the past and move forward from today, and if you treat them with the respect and sicerity that you would expect back that will shine through much sooner than later.
