The French Revolution occurred from 1789 to 1799 which caused social and political changes on a radical scale in France. It started with the Estates-General in May 1789, which as a general assembly that represented the clergy, the nobles and the common people; which was gathered by King Louis XVI to try and overcome the country’s financial problems, but not much was settled. When the revolution ended in 1799 there was a transitional period and Napoleon Bonaparte emerged as the leader of the First Empire in 1804.
