   When early pioneers of the internet age began designing the websites in the early 90’s, they then became fixated on some of the filters which are offered by programs like Photoshop. Lens flares, bevels, drop shadows, glows, were used to their fullest extent. You need to avoid using abusing these filters, also you need to avoid misusing these filters. There are the instances in which these filters can be of great benefit, but you have to know about how you can use them properly.
   
   Usability, Not clutter
   
   Usability is about making the visitor’s experience a very good one on your site. In this case things should be easy to read, easy to access and most importantly, easy to understand. When a visitor visits your site, they must know exactly what your site is all about within the first couple seconds. This is obviously where the design, and layout come into play. You need to avoid cluttering your site in physical sense.
   
   Text Do's and Dont's
   
   One of the really big facts that was prevalent in early part of this decade, was the use of these small fonts. You Never go below 11px font – and also even 11px should only be rarely used. Size 14px seems most ideal for the paragraph’s of text. You can get away with the 12px of course, but as resolutions of screens are increasing, 12px suddenly becomes smaller.
   
   Colors and Contrast
   
   The color theme of a site is very important. A lot of designers normally use too many colors, simply because they are there. But I like using no more than 2 basic primary colors and a third “secondary” color that I rarely use throughout the design.
