I spent my honeymoon in New Orleans and have stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans; it’s on Canal Street. I don't really like that location because the Quarter is pretty large; it's a walk to the center, where most things are.

As far as your safety, stick with the Quarter, City Park and Garden District if you are going to walk about. I know there are other safe places, but it's too long and drawn and too expensive .and this is too much affordable for your stay at long time. And i have more other option for affordable booking in New Orleans. So you can choose your best hotels to suite your budget. I hope that you will like them. French Quarter and Garden District would be your best attractions.

Omni Royal Orleans:- Located in the Heart of the French Quarter on the corner of St. Louis and Royal, this old world French hotel stands on the remains of the grand St. Louis Hotel built in the 1700's.

Harrah's Casino Hotel:- Harrah's Casino has a beautiful hotel across the street from the casino in the Warehouse/Arts District. Harrah's is a new, modern high-rise with great views of the city and the Mississippi River.
