The British Airways London Eye(London Eye) is considered as the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and the most popular paid tourists destination  in the United Kingdom. More than 3.5 million people visit it every year. At the time of its installation in 1999, it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world.  Star of Nanchang surpassed EDF Energy London Eye  first by the 160 m (520 ft)  in 2006. Further,  Singapore Flyer made another  world record with the height of 165 m (541 ft). It was built  in 2008. It is still "the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel".

The Ferris wheel consists 32 sealed and air-conditioned ovoidal passenger capsules which are  attached to its external circumference. Each capsule represents one of the London Boroughs. More than 24 people can be accommodated in the capsule easily, who can freely walk around inside the capsule. Seats are also  provided to the tourists. Its speed of rotation is 26 cm (10 in) per second (about 0.9 km/h or 0.6 mph) so it completes one revolution in about 30 minutes. The wheel does not need to stop for taking passengers. Because of slower  the rotation rate, passengers are allowed to walk on and off the moving capsules at ground level.  However, it stops for  disabled or elderly passengers time to embark and disembark safely.

The London Eye is located between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge on the South Bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Lambeth which is at the western end of Jubilee Gardens, in England. The site is very near to the former Dome of Discovery.  It was  constructed for the Festival of Britain in 1951.
