I'm a huge football fan, and as the league progressively moves towards a more pass oriented style of offense and as a result defense, quarterback play is more important now than ever. That being said, there are two excellent young quarterbacks who recently got drafted that I would put numbers one and two. This assessment is based on a triad of things I believe make up quarterbacking excellence:
Leadership - The great quarterbacks are born leaders who not only lead by example, but inspire their teammates through the relationships that they build and the quality of their character.
Use of their athletic gifts - This covers everything that is physical about the game and their maximization of what althetic gifts they have been given. Professional quarterbacks are often large, strong and incredibly athletic and explosive humans. Ideal quarterbacks have strong arms, builds and can run very well to beat teams.
Work Ethic and Desire - the true greats want to be the best and do whatever it takes to get there. They are the first guy at the facility meniacally studying film or lifting weights and the last one to leave.
Based on the above, the following is the best quarterback and the second best right now:
1. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
2. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
