Why turtle looses shell
Tags: looses, shell, turtle
A turtle is never able to lose its shell because it is part of the turtle. A turtle's shell is the result of two bones, the carapace and plastron. These are fastened together by a bone bridge. The carapace is the upper part of the shell while the plastron acts as the base.
Each part is covered with scutes or shields which are made of keratin, the same thing that our finger nails are made of. This hard substance protects turtles.
