    It's hard to argue with the 3 oscars, but I would have to say no. He is definately top 5 of all time, but he has shown his skill mainly in a couple different genres where as Tom Hanks, Marlon Brando, and Jack Nicholson all of whom have won numerous awards, with all 3 winning 2 Best Actor awards, but they have all shown greater versatility compared to Daniel Day-Lewis.

    This is definitely a valid question and Day Lewis should be considered at least among the top 3-5 ever. He has proven in various and differing roles that he can so completely become the character he is playing that there is no longer any seperating the actor from the role he is playing.

   
   

   One thing that should be noted is that Day Lewis is the only man to win the Best Actor award three times. Others including Marlon Brando (a consideration for best ever) as well as Tom Hanks have won twice each. The most ever awards for Best Actor or Actress belongs to Audrey Hepburn who has 4.
