Hall of Fame Yogi Berra was taken to an area hospital and later discharged on Thursday after he fell in the Yankees' clubhouse at the Phillie's spring-training site.

Berra, 85 years old, was having lunch at around 11:20 a.m. when he stumbled and fell backward. He was immediately taken by ambulance to Morton Plant Hospital in Clear-water as a precaution.

"He did not want to go to the hospital," manager Joe Girardi said. "But we have got to make sure  that he is all right. When he left, he was in good spirits, and he was laughing. And he is still that way."

Berra is with the Yankees as a guest instructor and is a wildly popular figure around the Yankees' clubhouse. He joked with players that he did not want his wife to find out about the fall because he was afraid she will make him come home.
