Question:

can barely hear people talking but can hear music and other sound effects

When I play any movie, everything seems fine, but when any movie plays you can barely hear the people talking but every other sound heard is fine, music, sound effects etc. It is only the talking that is faint.

    I had this same problem. I believe that what is causing the voices to be muffled is a setting that someone must have turned on called voice cancellation. You can turn off this setting by going to control panel, then sound, click on speakers and then go to properties. Go to the enhancements tab and you should see a checkmark next to voice cancellation.  Uncheck this and this should fix your problem. Hope this helps.
