comment on the uniqueness of murder in the cathedral as a play
Tags: Cathedral, Comment, murder, Play, uniqueness
Murder in the Cathedral, the T.S. Eliot drama which was first performed in 1935 is unique in several ways. First and foremost, the story the play recounts, the assassination of Archbishop Thomas Becket in 1170 is both historic and true. Beyond that, the work is performed as a verse drama in which the characters speak in poetic prose such as a Shakespearean work. Also, the work features a chorus that foreshadows the murder in the Cathedral as well as serves to set the mood for various parts of the play.
