In the United States, Adoption is a legal act. Anyone who is a US national and living with the United States, can permanently adopt a person under the age of 18 with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. There is a very well established Foster care system in the United States. It is a system by which people above 18 year of age care for minor children who unable to live with their biological parents. As statistics given in fiscal year 2000, people adopted more than150,703 Foster children in the United States, most of them by their foster parents or relatives of their biological parents. Current statistics show that only in the United States, there are more than 500 thousand children in foster care; with majority of African American or African American mixed children. One hundred thousand children are waiting for adoption. The process require for adoption normally takes less than 10 months to adopt a child for majority of couples. More than 200,000 children from overseas have been adopted by American families in the past 15 years; most of them are from Asian countries. In the United States, this trend is very helpful to lower the resistance to trans-racial adoptions. However there is great demand for African American children. Most of black families show interest in African American newborns, who normally matched with a birth mother within a few months. There are many websites that helps in the process of adoption. Few of them are: americanadoptions.com africanadoptions.org adoptionassociates.net/domestic/african_american africanamericanadoptionsonline.com/newly_adopted.html
