how do you fertilize and where do the bags show up for farmville

    When you go to your neighbor's farm, if you are lucky you would find the fertilize bag icon(piture) at the bottom left corner.  you can click on the bag then on the crops.  the stars will be hovering above the crops once they are fertilized (mas of 5 crops).  For each crop you fertilized you get 1 experience point.  You neighbor also get one experience point for each fertilized crop they havest.
