   In Beka Lamb there is a structured family where every one plays a role in the up keep of the house and home however in A Kestrel For A Knave there is no acknowledge family unit every one looks out for there own well fare.
   
   Beka is able to over come all her problems through the constant help and support of her family. Her mother gives her a book to help her over come her habit of lying. Beka's father trusts her and believes she cam do anything he shows this when he sends her back to school even though she failed and lied about it.  
   Billy is hindered by his family (his mother try to send him to the shop in doing this he would be late for school). Billy finally comes into his own after he meets the kestrel but this is destroyed when his brother kills the kestrel
