    Basketball is one of the world's most popular sports, gaining widespread appeal in major markets outside North America. Regardless of its extreme popularity now, the sport itself had very humble beginnings.

   
   

   The sport was actually invented by a Canadian teaching physical education in the U.S. who was looking to provide his YMCA students with a rigorous game that could be played indoors during a rainy day. This led him to create a game that involved shooting a soccer ball into a peach basket hung 10 feet up a pole.The game evetually evolved to include dribbling, shot clocks and other advancements.
