    Hello,

I have not replaced the cord (yet) but took it apart and put it back together today.

You'll need a selection of flathead screwdrivers to complete the job.

If you look at the bottom of the iron, you will see one s***w holding on a "nameplate" that lists the manufacturer (sunbeam); line (ironmaster) and model (a-4) along with its various patents.

Once you remove the s***w and plate, you will see 2 flathead machine screws in place (with a high profile) immediately holding the handle in place along with 2 flathead machine screws with split lock washers recessed about 3/8" which hold the contacts to the electrical cord.  The split lock washers are small and can easily be lost if you're not mindful.

Once you've removed the last flathead, you take the handle and slide it about 1/8" forward releasing the base "iron" assembly from the handle / cord.  When the handle is free, you will see the cord held in place by two slotted nuts which holds two "squishing" plates which will flatten the cord to maximize contact surface area.  WIth a larger screwdriver, you can remove these two slotted nuts, you can remove the (+) and (-) lead.

Once the leads are free, you can remove the cord.

Let me know what new cord you use to replace the old cord.

    Ed

    remove these
