is it illegal for a 16 1/2 yr old to date a 19 yr old boy in nys?

i am a 16 1/2 year old girl. i'm with a 18, almost 19 year old. my parents hate the idea that im with him because of the 2 year age diffrence. im trying to convince them to let us date.. do you think it is inaproprate for us to be together (not sexually) just to date. we both live in nys, his mom is ok with this.. but my parents are threatning to get a restraning order against him.

consider a few things:
a) you consider yourself 16 1/2, 1/2 years don't count, 16 is 16. 18 is 18.
b) it is not unusual for people to date within 2 years, but WHY is he dating a girl so young? does he have ulterior motives? has he pressured you into anything physical? is in college or a drop out?
c) i moved out of my house at 17 to be with a boy i thought i loved he was older, my parents hated him and he ended up being a huge jerk. your parents (in most cases) only want the best for you, consider their thoughts and try to explain (if you decide its worth it) why you want to be with him, and he should be present for the conversation as well, parents can help when you are open and have a good argument (not attacking them)expressing your feelings. Trust me, I have learned this.
d) finally, it WILL be illegal if you involve in anything sexual. I'd HIGHLY advise against it, it will give your parents ammunition against you.
