Paranormal activity, is a horror flick, but i couldn't find anything scary in it. That's the biggest flaw of this movie. I would like to know, is this so called horror flick based on a true story?

    The producers of Paranormal Activity 2 made it appear factual, but it even   states in the credits that no one of the happenings in the movie actually   occurred and the entire video was not true.



    I kind of wish Paranormal Activity 2 was based on a true story, because It   was really interesting.

    The actors use their real names to make it look real. The director films at   his own house. Time has an article on this.



    A lot of movies are based on real things. Based means taking one very small   piece of a story and applying it to the rest of the movie.



    So Paranormal Activity 2 was a hoax and was not based off of a real life   event, but I will say that the event possible could happen.

    According to writer/director Oren Peli, he got the idea for the movie after he and his girlfriend bought their first house together. They bought a new suburban tract house, which was still settling. At night, the house could be heard creaking and settling, causing little noises and things to fall off shelves and break. Peli doesn't say whether or not he thought his house was haunted, but that incident is what gave him the idea to write Paranormal Activity.

    I believe that it is based on true events that have occured in the past. Its weird because at the end of the movie it didnt even have a directors name the actors name or anything. It just finished with a weird ending that didnt make any sense so it seems like its true, idk it could be just a written made up story or it actually happend. who knows!!

    i too am a christian, that loves to be scared on occasion. this movie did just that scared the c**p out of me. honestly i dont know if this movie is real or not but the things i have experienced in my life with spirits coming and sitting on the edge of my bed at nite and feel the bed move, is a very weird experience. demons are very real and they can do  whatever they feel like to you  when ever they want too.  but if this movie is about a couple that is dealing  witha demon spirit  then why do they need a director i thought it was all free will?? i thought the police just happen to run across the tapes by accident?? go figure  it was still a great movie

    I think the better question is can something like this really happen to a person? I believe the answer is yes. Demons have been spoken of since... well FOREVER. The scariest thing about it is that a Demon can pick anyone of us and what REAL power do we have to stop it? I mean seriously how many of you  can say that you would know what to do in that type of situation? All I know is I am definetly going to be taking a closer look at my belief system and get to know God on a more familiar bases because personally I think he would be the only one that could truely intervene.

    I saw the movie last night in Atlanta, GA, and I dont know. It was scary I know for a FACT that sprits/demons do exist. I have had a couple of scary experiences myself, but you have to have faith in GOD, and know that he is in control. I really didnt not want to see the movie, but my friends did so I went. I hope that it was fictional, but it could be possibly true.

    I think it is based on true events. It is weird they would show the exact dates and the year 2006 why that year if something didn't really happen. Think about it EVEN if it were true they cannot tell us do you know how much s**t would go down. We didn't hear of the actor/actress names because i think they are trying to show the true story without anyone being able to ask to many questions.....

    No, it isn't based on a true story, although I do believe this sort of thing is possible.  If you go to the Paranormal Activity main movie website it tells you in detail where the writer/director got his ideas for making the movie.  The website should answer all of your questions.  I did enjoy the movie though :)

    From my findings, it is based on true events, and it's not all true.  I saw it just the other night and have been looking things up.  The director has had experiences with the paranormal and made the movie on a budget of $15,000.  Things like this can happen, but it didn't really happen.  At least not to the directors knowledge.  Some people answering this question saying you are all idiots and such, they are rude and obviously don't care about other people.  Just because you don't believe doesn't mean other people do.  I have had experiences as well, living in old haunted places, and owning haunted objects.  Things do happen, not to everyone, but to some people that believe.  Again, the movie isn't all true, but it is based on experiences.  If you haven't seen it, go see it!  It's really good. :D

    i believe in ghosts and spirits but the movie is fiction, the director had expierenced "weird" things happening in his house when he was trying to sleep for example odd noises or things falling off the shelf, so he thought if he could videotape these occurances happening he could make it into a movie, micha and katie are only actors, go to paranormal activites website and read the background on it, it tells you how the director came up with the idea

    yes it was based on true events but all from different cases and imo i dont believe in demons or "evil" entities, yes energy imprints also know as a ghost can be negitive but it is just an imprint of energy on repeat and cannot comunicate, spirit on the other hand can comunicate but i see no reason for it to be evil in my teachings and studying spirit is love and has no reason to be negitive. I think people jump to conclusions with these things thinking their paranormal or "possesion" because of hollywood when there is logical explaination, energy is a very powerful thing aswell as your mind, so people can project their fear and making it real for themselves but in cases like possesion, people lack to find out what if its a mental illness which in most cases at the end, it is. as i said energy is powerful and so is the mind and you can make things real for yourself by projecting that energy. but the only evil here is man made imo.

Second, the movie itself is not real, just a really cool story. There are claims and documentation of demon activity, though i have never heard of one actually killing another person. The demon can however, drive it's target completely mad and even induce suicide. most people don't ever have to worry about it. More people get killed by vending machines than sharks and mor people get killed by sharks than demons, so don't go getting all goofey on me, alright?

    Paranormal activity is prob a collection of a few ghost lore events and acual events but on demons possesing you there have been documented exorcisims where the deamons have killed the host (The exorcisim of emily rose) where you can find that the only fictonal part of the story was how many priests did the exorcisum and the trial but there are aculy post mordum pics and pics after death also the acual names of the real deamons that were in her. The worse thing is for people to not know this because it may temp you to temp something you shouldn't and the real storys don't always end so nicly.

    i thought this was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. and if anyone thinks that this is based on a true story or had some kind of experience then maybe you should go seek therapy. i'm not saying anything is wrong with you. if you believe in it fine. i do believe that some kind of paranormal activity could happen on some kind of level but this movie took it to the extreme it made me say bullshit in almost every scene and i almost walked out. there were a few things i liked was the ending which i still think was bullshit but it was at least interesting for a second. and the girl had a nice rack which keep me from falling asleep. and finally it had no credits. i liked that cause that f*****g stupid a*s movie didn't deserve any credits.

    i think the movie is just a movie. it was only written by Oren Peli. though there is a real demon. and if you continue on entertaining the bad spirit like what Micah have done (cursing the demon,playing the Ouija board)it really come to you and disturb you. that paranormal activity can happen to anyone whoever they are. but that is a really awesome movie and really scared me. i do believe in that kind of existence, so that is the last time i will watch that movie. my godfather told me that there is someone here in my country (Philippines) that had been possessed by this whatever, because of repeatedly watching that movie. oh, that scares me up.

    I thought that the movie was based on a true story, it was scary and believable, an ordinary couple but a girl that had been terrorised since she was a little girl. Who knows if demons and ghosts are real, in my opinion they are. I know a family that have had strange things happen and have seen things happen, orbs floating in the air, a perfect pile of stones on the wooden floor, even mysterious scratches on the woman when she wakes up. Some ghost experts and people that dint believe came to their flat and studied it for hours on end until they got a response. It was quite a scary experience for me as i had never heard of this before and never quite believed if it was true. I would hate if something like this happened to me, and would never try and make whatever it is (ghost or demon) show itself.

    it's not true, just a movie. they just made it realistic by using a video camera in most of the time, so that it will be projected as live footage, dated year 2006. One more thing, Why didn't Micah take his camera, when Katie was pulled by the invisible whatever and the last night Katie stepped downstairs and screamed like somebody was harming her, for Micah to see what he really wanted to see. It is more believable if Mica was stabbed by Katie, while Micah is videoing. Why is it out in the market? in the cinema theaters? It's a movie, not a typical one, but still a money making venture/business, just like a commercial product or other some movies promoted. Why there is a trailer?

    AKA she walks up stairs after Killing Micah and a frind comes over finds his dead body calls cops cops come she walks over to cops they SHOT HER kate

    I beleave its based on true events it was well done movie i almost thought it was 100% real at points it was that well done.
    Like when she got ripped out of her bed down stairs screaming that looked so real.

    i think the first think that goes to every person that just watch this movie, "is micah real dead?" that kind of very very nice guy (gonna be katie's husband)... he's very brave of facing the haunting ghost... unfortunately he's dead at the end of the movie... i flash after watch this movie, i google if it's a true story or not, i almost believe it 99,99% because at the beginning of the movie i kinda read about thanking to california police for the permission of publishing the tape... seriously, tricked me haha... kick a*s movie, nice.... hope that wont ever happen to me..

    I enjoyed this movie I did'nt find it scary I found it more intresting and exciting it was well done too, It's pretty sad in the end when she gets woken up by the police and asks where her boyfriend is.     I thought this movie was based on actual events, however even though in the beginning of the movie it thanks the families and the police department at the end of the movie, after it says his body was found by the police on this date and her whereabouts are still unknown, read the paragraphs that come up. It clearly says at the end of the first paragraph "the characters and events depicted in this playmovie are fictionous and any similarities to any persons living or dead is purely coincedental". In my experience I would have to say that since this is written in that paragraph this movie is not based on actual events and is just portrayed to make people believe that; although it would have made the movie much cooler if it were!!

    Alternate endings and name changes would be plausible in any piece disclaiming "BASED ON actual events..."

    Due to the 'based on actual events' disclaimer, it leaves room for writer creativity whilst using  facts or actual events as muse, reference, and backbone.

    I think we have determined that it was not a true story but it was still a good film.  It was very realistic or it wouldn't have all this debate surrounding it.  I was disappointed that it wasn't real but I didn't know when I was watching it so there was that element of unknown.  I liked it.  Maybe it inspire a true story.  I know there are people out there experiencing paranomal activity.  If they can record it, then it might make a good movie.

    Quando se diz que o filme é baseado em fatos reais, mas não cita a fonte, ou não dá detalhes claros do acontecido fica difícil levar a coisa à sério, não é ?
    Que existem acontecimentos extraordinários isso não tenho dúvida, mas conforme é prática nos bons livros de pesquisa que descrevem a bibliografia no final, esse filme não deixa muitos detalhes tipo cidade onde aconteceu, bairro, ano, mesmo que não cite claramente os nomes das pessoas.
    Mas, como obra de ficção dá para se assustar sim. Bom filme assustador !

I for one think it was a real event and re done. There is much unkown out there and its not some thing that should be pissed off.

    This movie was the biggest load of s**t. It is not real, nor is it based on real events. Throughout the whole movie, there are editing pauses - meaning, they stop rolling the camera if they make a mistake. It was nowhere near as scary as everyone is making it out to be...     something wierd is happening in our house last few months.1 blinds started moving,no wind,no window open,not by radiators,could not explain it.2 girlfriend took daughter to nursery,came back electric plug in kettle was on and steaming its head off.she swears she never put it on be4 she left and even if she did it would of well switched its self off by the time she came back.3 we have touch lights on either side of bed which have been on a few times,then the other morning both came on at same time with no one near them! i personally dont believe in ghosts but dont knock it!

    However, director Oren Peli told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that moving to a home in San Diego inspired the film.

    "I never lived in a single detached family home," he said, so he was conscious of every noise at night, particularly of the house settling and items slipping from shelves. That led to thinking how a video camera might document the source of the sounds, which led to the movie.

    He credits "This Is Spinal Tap" and "The Blair Witch Project" as influencing a movie that purports to be true, but isn't.

        * According to writer/director Oren Peli, he got the idea for the movie after he and his girlfriend bought their first house together. They bought a new suburban tract house, which was still settling. At night, the house could be heard creaking and settling, causing little noises and things to fall off shelves and break. Peli doesn't say whether or not he thought his house was haunted, but that incident is what gave him the idea to write "Paranormal Activity."

        * First off, the movie isn't what it seems at all. The first 10 minutes are terrible - to say the least. And then it picks up and it was excellent. Definitely check it out!

        * No, "Paranormal Activity" isn't a true story. It's a made-up story like all ghost movies they make except they wanted to make it seem more real, like a documentary. I mean you can't just find a camera and all that stuff on site and say lets turn it into a real movie.

        * No. There are 2 endings; it were true and they DID die, how could they make an alternate ending? What, did they come back alive, make another ending, then die AGAIN? Impossible.

          In addition, do you really believe that an invisible so-called "demon" could really drag an adult like Katie (if that even is her real name)? I bet they put strings on her ankles or attached her to a bunch cables. Plus, it says "Thanks to this police station for this video." I have seen way too many movies that say that.

          My point is, it is NOT true. Do not believe one second of it; this will just waste your time staying up at night afraid the "demon" is going to haunt YOU.

        * "Paranormal Entity" was in fact based on a fictitious story. In 1978, a book was published by a man named Frank Defelitta... It was then made into a movie in 1983 named "The Entity." And "Paranormal Entity" is in fact based on this book.

          I did not find this out until after doing some research of my own because of suspicion... I have watched scenes and trailers of the movie and it is almost identical to that of the 2009 movie "Paranormal Entity." Note the bathroom scenes and the "rape" by an unknown force.

          Another oddity: The name "Maron" in "Paranormal Entity" was the woman in the movie "The Entity's" last name.

        * No, of course it is not based on a true story: The CIA or the FBI don't share with their documents with some director. And also, if this event were true, we would have seen that in news all over the world....

        * Actually - and as you can see - it is true. Think of it: When a person dies where does his or her spirit go? Well, here above the ground, and demons are true and they are very powerful.

    Listen people Deamons do exist..and yes they have some power. But man is much more powerful. See If your going to believe in deamons you have to believe they can be overcome. Deamons are driven by instilling fear in people. If you believe in evil you have to believe in good, for without heaven there is no h**l and without h**l there is no heaven.     People think its fun & games to toy with a 'ouji board' , what people dont realize is if theres a bad spirit in that presence... its not all fun of games. My mother was a witness to something in regards to this but if everyone has watched the second part of paranormal activity, the one girl (forgot her name) but the daughter reads from the internet that if you make a deal with a demon ,one of the second sons or something along those lines must be given in return, the deal would consit of riches, good looks... anything like that. This ive seen more so with deals with the devil such as selling your soul for riches.. pretty scary c**p lol  if you really think abt it.. just be careful kids. :)

     Its not real, when they did the first one they had claimed that it was real as well. But it's not, since they interviewed both Micha and Katie after they did the FIRST movie! Its a good movie but it's not real. Go to youtube and look up the Paranormal Activity Interview, they're sitting and talking. Ghosts are real but those movies are not. If the director doesn't put his name at the end of the movie then they're just trying to get you to believe that it's real by showing that clearly no one filmed it except the "real people"

    Okay since I'm reading really retarded comments let me help you guys... obviously movies are not real so the fact that they interviewed the actors doesn't mean the people the movie is based on couldn't have died. I don't even know how to express how completely off that sounds. Acotrs and people movies are based on are two different things. This movie is meant to be an eye opener for people who will believe in a silly thing such as GHOSTS but refuse to believe in ANGELS and DEOMNS. (In actuality, ghosts are demons.) So where do ghosts go afterwards? Wouldn't everyone expierience ghosts if people turned into ghosts after dieing since over millions of people die each year? At least through the Bible there are solid answers. No one can actually prove science, once you are young science is stuffed down your throat without your consent. Scientists still can't explain the Big Bang theory which is still only a theory to this day just like Darwin's theory of evolution. Surprisingly, most scientists do believe in God so what does that tell you? People believe in a 2012 theory from Mayans instead of accepting something called the Rapture or the book of Revelations. The movie is loosely based on a true story and the film itself is reinacted if there was an actual film. Obviously I am a Christian but what should scare you is not ghosts but what if countless religions are right about God and you die not knowing him nor Jesus? Some one who hasn't accepted Christ and has repented will be sent to h**l... so should you risk eternity while living this tempral life?

    There is no point putting religion in it or science, if there were such things as spirits they wouldn't even be able to move objects or even people, they could probs blow you over like the wind does but that is it. I do not believe in spirits cause there is no such thing, anyone who does has got some problem with there vision, they should take most haunted off tv, all it does is scare people and when you belive in something so much it is your mind that plays tricks on you, If you belice in spirits then why can't you belive in God, they are not the same thing cause God is more powerful than the universe put together, but why belive in something that is going to keep you up all night and haunt you.     Paranormal activity is a fictional movie, based upon a haunted house, i don't think that this horror suspense thriller, took inspiration from any  real life event. As, in reality ghosts don't exist, and there are no haunted houses either.
