motor gets hot and shuts down

   I have a Hoover Spinscrub steam cleaner, model F5914-900. After about 10 minutes of use, the motor heats up, has an electrical smell, and will shut down on its own. I now use for 10 minutes, the motor will begin to sound as though it is slowing down and I'll shut it off manually, wait 30 minutes or so before trying again. The same problem occurs each time. How can I fix this problem, and what has caused this problem? The steam vac has been used less than 50 times and is not under warranty.
