If you are 18 or over in the United States, and do not have diminished mental capacity by court order and appointment of a legal guardian, then you are free to go as you choose. That being said, the fact that you're asking this question begs the question: Why is your guardian so set against your leaving? It's a tough world out there, and nothing is forever when you're 18 (take it from a former teenage runaway). Unless you're being physically or (really) mentally abused at home, take some friendly advice and work out your problems and stay where you are (while you still can).

I am extremely heart broken. My daughter of 18 years has decided to take her friend over her parents whom have provided for her all her life this New Years day. She has no drivers license, no job, we provide for her fully financially, yet she decides she can do as she pleases because she's 18? She graduated mid term with our permisssion and thinks this gives her permission to do as she wishes. My GOD KIDS f*****g THINK! You have parent who love you and are willing to provide for you. Why s***w it up? I have cried my valley of tiers and at this point will be removing her from all monies set asside for her for college. At this point we will not be signing for any student loans either. Why? Cause of stupidity! Kids please think before f*****g up you're lives!
