what is the difference between scientist and a technologist?

    Scientists study WHY natural things happen the way they do; technologists use knowledge to turn resources into the goods and services that society needs and/or desires. So a scientist would study how the Earth was formed and what it is made from while a technologist uses the materials in the earth to make useful objects.
