    Based on my understanding of vampire lore, one can only 'transform' into a mythical vampire by a set of special circumstances that almost always involve dying. Either one dies after having served in some unholy capacity (going against the church) or is awoken as an undead after death due to some sort of circumstances (possession or animals jumping over your corpse). All in all though I have to say that I am of the opinion that vampires do not exist except for in stories and myth.
