A visit to www.newworldprints.com will help you understand Posada's relationship to Day of the Dead. In a nutshell, he was a great artist who through his genius created timeless calavera images that have gained increasing popularity even after his death in 1913. He was not the first to use such imagery but what he did was so good that really must be given the majority of credit for having popularized the calavera. His main publisher Antonio Vanegas Arroyo deserves some credit too---he hired Posada and knew what sold!
