have any parents tried or heard of a home boot/detention camp it"s a severe but short punishment to bring a badly or out of control teenager back into line 6 months ago we punished our 15 year old daughter with home boot/detention and it worked wonders we haven"t had to punish her again and her grades at school are excellent.
our daughter was getting into all kinds of trouble including smoking at school missing lessons being rude etc, we grounded her but she just climbed out her window, the last straw came when her friends parents brought her home half drunk at 1am when she was supposed to be in her room grounded, so my husband put a lock on her window and bedroom door that can only be locked or unlocked with a key.
a friend of mine suggested the bootcamp idea so we gave it a go,
it lasts a whole weekend in our daughters case 2 weekends on the spin she hated it to say the least,the rules of the boot/detention camp are very strict, first the childs room is emptied of EVERYTHING except bed blankets, desk and chair for schoolwork, they cannot speak unless spoken to first they must address parents as sir or miss, they must carry out all chores and written work to a high standard without complaint, they can"t even wear what clothes they want, these are chossen by you normally school clothes shirt tie blazer etc.
the timetable goes something like this.
FRIDAY 4pm the child returns from school is given dinner then escorted to their rooms and they are locked in for the night, they must complete all homework, if at any time they need the toilet they must knock on their door and wait to be let out.
SATURDAY 630am ALARM CALL: the teen gets washed and dressed.
7am BREAKFAST IN ROOM.
7 30am ROOM TIDYING : the child cleans and hoovers their room.
8am ROOM AND CLOTHES INSPECTION: the parent inspects the childs room for cleanliness, and checks the child is dressed smartly, collar done up tie neat and tidy and shoes shining.
815am 2 HOURS SCHOOLWORK: the child is set several essays on why they are being punished, they may also have to wright lines or other boring written work
1015am---12am ROOM CONFINEMENT: the child is confined to their room and their bedroom door is locked, the parent then marks the childs essays if not up to scratch they MUST do them again.
12am UNLOCK FOLLOWED BY LUNCH IN ROOM.
1230PM 2 HOURS CHORES: the punished teen is put to work toilets cleaned, floors scrubbed, carpets hoovered shirts ironed and washing up, the child is not allowed to speak whilst doing chores.
2 30pm CHORES INSPECTION: the parent makes sure all chores have been done properly if not further punishment.
2 45pm ADDITIONAL SCHOOLWORK: the child returns to their room and is locked in, they are given more essays, lines or even a letter of apology to wright.
4 15PM UNLOCK ; followed by dinner in room,
4 30 pm SHIRT IRONING: the child irons their shirt and polishes they shoes for tommorrow.
4 45 pm CLOTHES INSPECTION: the parent checks the childs shirt is ironed properly and shoes are shining.
5pm TOTAL LOCKDOWN: after a bathroom break the child is escorted to their room and their bedroom door is locked, they are not let out untill the following morning (except for toilet break)
8 pm LIGHTS OUT: the child is instructed to turn out their lights and go to bed.
SUNDAY bootcamp starts again.
what do other parents think too harsh or a good idea, remember it"s for serious offences only.instead of grounding a teen for weeks on end at least this is over quickly.
even if you don"t agree with it why not print out the timetable and show it to your teen, surly just the thought of this punishment should make a teen behave.
ps on a safety note we always kept the key in the lock so we could let her out in an emergency, plus both of us was close by to supervise at all times.
