what do sharks eat
Tags: eat, sharks
Sharks have been on Earth for over 400 million years and over that time have been carnivorous, meaning that they feed on other creatures. The vast majority of sharks feed on fish of various sizes, crustaceans, squid and octipi as well as sea mamals like seals. Some species, including whale sharks which are the largest of all species feed on plankton. Such sharks use filtration systems in their mouths to seperate the small plankton from water.
Other sharks have developed specialized forms of feeding. This includes cookie cutter sharks, a small breed that uses its small and sharp teeth to cut round pieces of flesh from their larger prey. Other breeds use suction to swallow prey whole. Time and circumstance has created a wide variety of feeding habits for arguably nature's greatest predator species.
