The New Year's Eve Song is called Auld Lang Syne. It is the customary recital for buzzing in the New Year all over the world.

"New Year's Day" is a recital by rock band U2. It is on their 1983 album War and it was issued as the album's lead lone in January 1983. Written about the Polish Solidarity action, "New Year's Day" is propelled by Adam Clayton's characteristic bass line and The Edge's keyboard playing. It was the band's first UK strike lone, peaking at #10 on the records journal, #11 on the Dutch Top 40 and charting on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in their career. In 2004, Rolling Stone publication put the lone at #427 on their register of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". This recital was furthermore encompassed in the Pitchfork 500.

The lyric had its sources in a love recital from Bono to his wife, but was subsequently reshaped and motivated by the Polish Solidarity movement. The bass part arose from bassist Adam Clayton seeking to number out what the chords to the Visage recital "Fade to Grey" was.

In 1983, Bono said of the recital, "It would be foolish to start drawing up assault lines, but I believe the detail that 'New Year's Day' made the Top Ten demonstrated disillusionment amidst record buyers. I don't believe 'New Year's Day' was a burst lone, absolutely not in the way that Mickie Most might characterise a burst lone as certain thing that lasts three minutes and three weeks in the chart. I don't believe we could have in writing that kind of song."
