The social media service (it is more than a site now) allows for instant feedback from customers, propogation of viral video content as well as other means to stay in constant view of your valuable customers. 80% of your business usually comes from 20% of your customers, and I am sure they would love more Walmart on Facebook if the company used the platform well.
