I have a 1995 6.5 Have installed a relay to run the lift pump. I also installed a switch so I can run the lift pump manually. The lift pump is working find. At 30,000 miles I had changed 2 PMD's the 3rd one at about 38,000 I relocated it in the air cleaner box forward of the air cleaner. I now have 120,000 miles on the truck. It is now stalling again after going about 1 mile when I first start it up in the morning [cold eng.]. Just shuts off will not start back up until I cut the ignition switch on and off about 4 times. It will then start and run for about 2 or 3 minutes. If I keep doing this until the engine gets warm it will not shut off any more. My question is what is cutting the ignition switch on and off doing and why will it keep running after its warm. I though cutting the switch on and off was running the lift pump for a short time allowing the engine to crank but that's not the case because with the pump running all the time it still shuts off. Help

    Hi There,
Most stalling in the 1995 is not from the pump or the driver, but it is the oil pressure switch which when the engine starts turns on the electric pump which feeds the injector pump.
1995 they designed it this way so that if you were in an accident the electric pump would sut off fromm no oil pressure.
This was a very poor design.
I wired my electric pump to a fuse double on the key turn on and I have not had a problem since.
I went through two injector pumps and PMDs when a good friend a local diesel shop told me there are nothing wrong with the pumps.
The electric pump keeps the pump full of fuel which allows for proper working of the system
