With Australia loosing the Ashes and being knocked off the top spot in the overall standings are they as good as they once were?

    Although it is a transitional phase, I think the best Australia best days are behind them for now, they got a young team and are coming along well, but I think they are over their golden period.

    The retirement of core players including Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Glenn McGrath and Justin Langer was always going to leave a big hole in Australia's Test side, and the rankings show the Aussies have now come back to the field. Questions were asked about whether Australia's best was over after the 2005 Ashes, and they bounced back to win back the urn on home soil in a 5-0 whitewash, and held onto the number one ranking for another four years. Right now though, the Australians are in a rebuilding phase and are some way from dominance of recent times.
