Do HP make the best laptops?

   Hi There,
   It was when I bought mine about seven years ago. For the four years i had it before I replaced it, I played games, did all my uni work, using scanner, printer, etc, photoshop, illustrator, i.e. all things that traditionally bugger a PC up, and it never crashed once. Froze occasionally, but then they all do. I gave it to a mate when I bought a new one, and as far as I know, he's still using it! Never used an HP laptop tho.
   P.S. As for sony, my girlfriend just bought a Sony VAIO, and while it works fine, the battery life is appalling. It says two hours, but that's only if you leave it idle. If you play a film, or music, etc, you're lucky if you get an hour. Unless you leave it plugged in, that is.

   Like any manufacturer, HP make some great products and some not so great. You can assume that HP, Sony and similar reputable companies test their products thoroughly so you can expect them to last. This cannot be said of brand-X products. Unfortunately, products from these reputable companies may be quite conservative on features and less than brilliant designs. Typically they only include things like MP3/CD-R/DivX/WiFi support long after other brands. Their products are defined by well-paid executives, not starving students and nerds who live on the bleeding edge of technology. So their products are designed and priced for "well qualified" customers.
