    Hi There,
Superstition is a credulous belief or notion, not based on reason, knowledge, or experience. The word is often used pejoratively to refer to folk beliefs deemed irrational. This leads to some superstitions being called "old wives' tales". It is also commonly applied to beliefs and practices surrounding luck, prophecy and spiritual beings, particularly the irrational belief that future events can be influenced or foretold by specific unrelated prior events.

The etymology is from the classical Latin superstitio, literally "a standing over", hence: "amazement, wonder, dread, especially of the divine or supernatural" The word is attested in the 1st century BC, notably in Cicero, Livy, Ovid, in the meaning of an unreasonable or excessive belief in fear or magic, especially foreign or fantastical ideas. By the 1st century AD, it came to refer to "religious awe, sanctity; a religious rite" more generally

In general term superstitions are beliefs of a person about a non proven scientific fact.  The contradiction lies in the realism and something that has not happened and to what extent you believe such things can happen. Now the idea of superstitions is different in different cultures and many people belonging to various religions have a belief that such ideas of the real world can influence their daily life and activities. For example , on a special day or any occasion a certain custom is adopted to make  sure that their lives are safe and they are protected by some unnatural force. Now here we have to find link of science to the real world  and with the superstitions. Whether science provides enough evidence or any empirically proof is required to prove that there is some reality based in the superstitions.
Science requires proof for every reality in life, there are many experiments which are conducted on the theories to make it real and to prove by facts. There are predictions made about the theories and these theories need certain amount of evidence to prove a matter. If there are certain predictions which fail to give enough support to the theory then it becomes scientifically inevident.
Superstition is a matter which requires some proofs  and everything that is connected to us is on the side of unknown. There are some other links which are related to science of superstition and they are only understood by some of the strong believers in life and they can only be identified by a person whose religion and his historical beliefs are required to resolve the problem.
