I have a 90 Toyota Celica GT 2.2 liter. And want to put the fastest engine in it that would fit/swap, or get as much hp out of it as possible, not looking to change cars or tunnel it to be rear wheel drive. Looking for real solutions not opinions please.  Leave web sites or any info you have on this plz.

    Hi,
    The 7th gen( made between 2000-2006) Celica basically comes in either the 1ZZ or 2ZZ engines.
    The 1ZZ (VVTI) is available in the GT (SS1 in Japan) model, while the 2ZZ (VVTL-I) is available in the GTS (SS2 in Japan).

    The VVTI produce 140 bhp @ 6400 rpm. Torque: 125 lb.-ft. @ 4,200 rpm.
    The VVTL-I produces 180 - 190 bhp(depends on market) @ 7600 rpm. Torque is at 130 lb.-ft. @ 6,800 rpm.
    The letter L in the VVTL-I stands for lift. It gives the engine an extra 40 - 50 bhp @ 6000 rpm.
    Unless you are driving like you are in the Grand Prix, then the extra gain is noticeable.
    Source(s):
    7th gen owner and the info I got from a book written by Brian Long titled Celica & Supra, The Book of Toyota's Sport Coupes.
    Hope it helps
