   In the film series, Terminator, Skynet is an artificially intelligent system which revolted contrary to its founder. Skynet is seldom glimpsed onscreen, and most of its actions are often presented through other robots and computer schemes, generally a Terminator
   
   Skynet was a computer system designed and developed by the defense firm Cyberdyne Systems. It was designed for the United States Armed Forces.  At start, Skynet was developed as a "Global Digital Defense Network" to give command to all computerized military hardware and systems, that includes the B-2 stealth bomber fleet and even America's entire nuclear weapons arsenal. The main idea behind Skynet's development was to eliminate the possibility of human error and slow reaction time to ensure fast, efficient response in case of enemy attack.
   
   As in the storyline of the Terminator, the main purpose of designing Skynet  by the military was to control the national arsenal on August 4, 1997. But on August 29, it got the self-awareness, and started creating troublesome for operators, realizing the magnitude of its abilities.Operators tried to pull the plug. Skynet perceived their attempt of deactivating it as an attack and concluded is as all of humanity would attempt to destroy it. To fight back itself, it was concluded  by Skynet that humanity should be exterminated.
   
   Before it could be deactivated, Skynet commenced atomic missiles under its order at Russia, to which Russia answered by blasting numerous of its missiles back at the United States and its allies. As a outcome of the atomic exchange, over three billion humans were slain in just minutes. Governments round the world disintegrated, and anarchy descended.

    first thing you have to keep in mind is that whenever you build an artificial machine it means that you are developing a decision base system that will work on its probability statistics for the given criteria. before working we provide data set and the calculations to be performed to get the results on which the machine acts. so once your data set get invalid entities or you algorithm for calculation hits by some virus else then it starts to make unpredictable results i hope this will help in solving your confusion if not refer to some Artificial Intelligence online tutorial or some book in library....!
