A local government in New Zealand acts to ensure the sustainable well-being of local communities by allowing locally elected members to represent the community and make decisions on behalf of that community. The Local government works in much the same way as New Zealand's central government, only they work to provide local solutions for local issues rather than on a national level. Regional councils manage environmental issues, resource management and public transport. New Zealand city and district councils provide a wide variety of governmental services including library, sports and leisure facilities, museums and art galleries, waste and building control.
