    Hi,
Actually I don't get this particular type of question "all the time."  Yours is a unique situation, in my experience with AllExperts.

It also needs knowledgeable handling.  It's sounds to me on the surface of it that your story deserves a better reception than it will get at the offices of a television series.

Story ideas for television shows are typically developed and written by writers who are on staff in the the story department.  Writers Guild rules mandate that a show must use a small percentage of stories from freelance writers who are members of the WGA. So most story departments are overstocked with ideas and pitches. You can see that there is a big disincentive to use stories from other sources.

You could try writing the story as a magazine or newspaper article in order to get it published, which would protect your copyright and would give the story department at S&D a reason to look at it and buy it from you.  (Offering your story for free is the kiss of death.  Don't do that.)

When you have published it -- even if in your local newspaper -- you would need to send a query letter (one short page) to the story department to see if they are interested in considering your material.

It's my belief that if you query them just on the basis that your idea is an anecdote about an incident in your life, there is a 95% chance you'll get a "thanks, but no thanks" response.  That's why you need to publish, to give your idea credibility, then at least you have SOME chance -- not a very strong one, but a chance.  Which is way better than wasting your submission on a certain "no."
