I have the same problem, i identified the RTC chip it's the E8564 10 pins below the main pcb. It communicate with a I2C bus. If someone has already replace that chip with succes let me know. Maybe the problem came from power supply, i have to check VDD supply suppose to be between 1.8 to 5.5 volts.

Ok i received the RTC RV-8564-C2 Farnell 153-9389 SON 10 PINS and i made some
SMT surgical operation. It takes me about 2 hours of very delicate unsoldering and soldering of that very tiny chip. If you dont have super accurate soldering skills, find someone that can make surface mount rework.

It solve the clock problem good and my Iriver can be use again for schedule FM recording.
I love my iRiver IFP-799 its my best gadget ever!!!
