   yes there is. i do it alot.
   
   1.go to a site called felixbruns.de
   2.download a firmware corrosponding to your ipod generation and the firmware no. you want
   3. if you have mac: hold options and click restore
   if you have pc: hold shift and press restore. it will ask for a .ipsw file, the file you dwnloaded should be in .ipsw form. if not, change the extension to .ipsw.
   4. click the file and taa-daa. you got a apple firmware free
