Meridian 9516 (Ameritech).

Reciever output volume drops substanionaly then connected to AC adapter, but goes back to normal without AC power.  How I can fix this?

    Meridian 9516 is supposed to retain information for 72 hours.  If I have a power failure, I lose everything.  Can you tell me what is wrong?  I don't see a battery to replace unless it is part of the power adapter.
