    Hi There,
    In addition to being able to activate your OSU Internet Username and change your password, the Manage OSU Internet Username page also offers the ability to verify your current password, as well as the ability to view password activity for your account.

    If you're trying to access the Manage OSU Internet Username page, and are having trouble connecting, make sure that your web browser is capable of supporting a secure (HTTPS) connection. By default, most modern web browsers should not have a problem accessing the site, but browsers older than Netscape 4.05, or Internet Explorer 4.x will not be able to access. Update to a newer version of your web browser or try from a different computer with the updated software.

    If you're succesfully connecting to the page, but are having trouble with the "Activate Account" or "Change Password" functions, see this article. If you're encountering an error with either the "Verify Password" or "View Password Activity" services, see the error descriptions below. If after looking at the error descriptions, you're still having trouble activating your account, contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 614-688-HELP (4357), or via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu .

    Errors With "Verify Password"


    You must supply both a Username and a Password.

    Be sure to fill in both the "OSU Internet Username" AND the "Current Password" fields before hitting the Return key or clicking the Verify Password button.


    There was a problem verifying your password.
    Please try back later.

    A system outage or error is preventing us from verifying your password at this time. Please try again in a few hours.


    Current password is incorrect for username.

    The username and/or password you supplied were incorrect. If you don't know your current password, or if what you thought it was isn't working, contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 614-688-HELP or via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu .


    Current password for user username is correct in the main password server, but has not propagated to all servers yet.
    If it has not finished propagating in one hour, please contact 8help.

    Password changes take time before the new password is available throughout the system. The password you provided is the correct current password, but the change (or password reset) has not yet had time to finish spreading to all the affected systems. Try verifying your password again in one hour - if you still receive this message, contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 614-688-HELP or via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu .


    Current password for user testtreboni.5 is incorrect in the main password, but is still in some of the other password servers.
    Your old password should be cleared from all servers within an hour.

    The password you supplied is not the correct current password - it is an old password, which was recently changed or reset. The change or reset has not yet had time to finish spreading to all the affected systems, however, so the old password may still work with some services. Within an hour, however, this password will no longer function and you will need to use the new one. If you did not recently change your password (or request that it be reset), you can use the "View Password Activity" function to check recent changes, or contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 614-688-HELP or via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu .




    Errors With "View Password Activity"

    The "View Password Activity" feature allows you to check the system logs and view a record of the password activity for your account. This record entails times that your password was checked (verified), changed, or reset. Under the Action column, "Verify the value" indicates a time your password was checked. "Change the value" indicates a time it was changed (or reset). The Source column tells you where that action originated. "Self" means it was done by you (or someone with your username and password!) from Manage OSU Internet Username page. "Central Site" indicates the check or change was performed by the Office of Information Technology.

    If you see any questionable password activity, contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 614-688-HELP or via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu .

    If the system is available, there is only one error you may encounter with the "View Password Activity" service:

    Current password is incorrect for username.
    Can not display password history.

    The username and/or password you supplied for this service were incorrect. If you don't know your current password, or if what you thought it was isn't working, contact the OIT Technology Support Center at 614-688-HELP or via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu .
