The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) consists of the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy and Philippine Air Force. The source of the ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES (AFP) could be traced to the Tejeros Convention in 1897-where the revolutionary government of General Emilio Aguinaldo conceived the Philippine Army under Captain General Artemio Ricarte. This Army was the off-shoot of the Revolutionary Forces, which took arms contrary to the Spanish Government from August 30, 1896 up to December 10, 1898 when the treaty of Paris was went into into by the United States of America and Spain. The 1987 Philippine Constitution put the AFP under the command of a citizen, the President of the Philippines, who actions as its Commander-in-Chief. All of its parts are part of the Department of National Defense, which is going by the Secretary of National Defense. The AFP has three foremost branches: • Philippine Army (PA) • Philippine Navy (PN) • Philippine Air Force (PAF) These three foremost parts are unified under a Chief of Staff who commonly retains the grade of General/Admiral. He is aided by a Vice Chief of Staff, commonly retaining the grade of Lieutenant General/Vice Admiral. Each of the three foremost parts are going by an agent with the next titles: Commanding General of the Philippine Army (Lieutenant General), Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy (Vice Admiral), and Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force (Lieutenant General).
